Jaecoo is a dedicated sub-brand of Chery International, focused on designing and marketing rugged SUVs for export markets. Alongside Omoda, Jaecoo is sold exclusively outside China as part of Chery’s strategy to strengthen its global presence. Offering premium off-road and adventure-ready models, Jaecoo caters to international buyers seeking capable and stylish SUVs. In many international markets, both brands are sold through shared dealerships, offering buyers a range of stylish and capable SUVs.

The name Jaecoo combines the German word “Jäger” (meaning ‘hunter’) with the English word “cool”, reflecting its adventurous yet sophisticated identity. Interestingly, in Iran, the brand is marketed under the name Lucano, adapting to regional preferences while maintaining its premium positioning.

Launched in April 2023 in Wuhu, Anhui, China, Jaecoo debuted alongside its sister brand Omoda as part of Chery’s premium “O&J” (Omoda & Jaecoo) lineup—exclusively marketed outside China to boost the automaker’s global exports. With ambitious targets, both brands aim to achieve 1.4 million annual sales worldwide by 2030 (excluding China). To support this expansion, Chery established Anhui Omoda Jaecoo Automobile Co., Ltd. as a dedicated sales company.

Jaecoo’s Global Rollout & Key Models

At its launch, Jaecoo introduced two flagship SUVs:

• Jaecoo J7 (rebadged Chery Tansuo 06)
• Jaecoo 9 (later renamed Jaecoo J8, based on the Chery Tiggo 9)

Sales began in Russia (September 2023) before expanding to:

2024–2025: Electric Expansion & New Models

• April 2024: Jaecoo unveiled the J6 EV (a rebadged iCar 03) at a brand event in China.

• February 2025: Launched the J5 EV in Indonesia, marking its entry into the electric SUV segment.
